PHOENIX – A group of war veterans from Arizona flew to the nation’s capital Monday, to view memorials that honor their service from the 1940s through the 1950s, a journey made possible by a nonprofit.
Honor Flight Arizona said the trip out of Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport was the last of four springtime outings.

The nonprofit is part of a national network that organizes the trips for veterans of World II and the Korean War.
The group said in an email three former prisoners of war would be aboard the Southwest Airlines flight.
Trips are funded through donations and sponsorships.
The latest trip ends Wednesday.
Flights will resume in the fall.
Honor Flight Network operates in 45 states in 131 hubs. The Arizona chapter launched in 2009.
By March of this year, more than 1,700 veterans and their 1,400 guardians (volunteers who travel with the vets) had been to the memorials.
There is already a waiting list for Vietnam War veterans, but trips weren’t planned for the foreseeable future, according to the Arizona chapter’s website.
