PHOENIX — A young child is in state custody after he was found wandering outside of a Walmart in Phoenix early Sunday.
Sgt. Tommy Thompson said the child was found in front of the store near 35th Avenue and Bethany Home Road around 4 a.m. wearing a polo shirt, khaki pants and a diaper.
The parents of the boy, who was believed to be about 2 years old, contacted police around noon.
Thompson said there may have been a misunderstanding about who was responsible for the child.
The boy is in custody of the Arizona Department of Child Safety, which is investigating the situation.
