PHOENIX — A Border Patrol agent in Arizona was allegedly assaulted by an Ecuadorian man while attempting to arrest the suspect in southern Arizona last week.
The 37-year-old man allegedly struck the agent several times on April 17 while agents tried to take the Ecuadorian and two Mexican men into custody for crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally.
The suspect fought the agent for several minutes and slid down a hillside before the struggle ended when additional agents helped handcuff the man.
All three men were eventually arrested near Lone Mountain outside of Patagonia, Arizona, a town about 20 miles from the border.
They were transported to the Sonoita Border Patrol Station. The Ecuadorian man and the agent both declined further medical attention.
The Ecuadorian is facing criminal charges for assaulting a federal agent. All of the men will remain in custody to be processed for immigration violations.
No identities were released.
