PHOENIX – Microsoft reportedly is gobbling up another chunk of land in Goodyear, the tech behemoth’s second recent real estate deal in the West Valley suburb.

Citing real estate database Vizzda, the Phoenix Business Journal reported Tuesday that Microsoft paid $37 million for another 147 acres in the city. The sale was recorded Monday.

The land at Citrus and Indian School roads is about 9 miles from the 279 acres Microsoft purchased for $48 million in September 2018.

In February, the Goodyear City Council approved an accelerated construction schedule on that parcel, which is near Phoenix Goodyear Airport and State Route 85.

In a statement to KTAR News 92.3 FM, Microsoft said it was planning to build energy-efficient data centers on the land to support the demand for cloud and internet services in Arizona and other western states. No timeline for the development was given.

The new purchase isn’t far from where dairy company Fairlife is partnering with Coca-Cola on a new $200 million facility to produce its lactose-free milk beverages.

Goodyear also recently moved ahead with plans to build a civic square with a new city hall, library, park and more.

KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Jeremy Foster contributed to this report.
