PHOENIX — Police said they are investigating multiple human bones found in Phoenix on Tuesday.

Phoenix Police Detective Luis Samudio said a person found what was believed to be a human bone sticking out of a canal drain near 40th and Van Buren streets.

Further investigation uncovered more human bones in a water vault located just north of the canal.

Samudio said police are unsure how long the bones have been there and if they are from a male or female.

He said police believe all of the bones belong to a single victim.

The investigation is ongoing.
