PHOENIX — With gas prices nearing $3 a gallon in Arizona, Wednesday would be a good day to ditch the car and ride your bike to work.

Maricopa County, in partnership with the city of Phoenix and state of Arizona, will host its annual Bike to Work Day.

The goal of the event is to inspire citizens to increase their fitness and decrease pollution.

Participants can ride with either a police-escorted group from midtown Park Central to CityScape in downtown Phoenix or ride solo and meet the group at CityScape.

The group cyclists leave at 7 a.m. and will ride through the Roosevelt and Willo Historic Neighborhood Districts as part of the 3-mile course. Check-in at CityScape for solo riders begins at 7 a.m.

Participants must bring their own bikes or use the Social Bicycle app to find and rent a bike.

Extra bicycle racks will be available at CityScape but will be removed at the end of the event.

We want to hear from you.
