PHOENIX — A man died from his injuries following a deputy-involved shooting in Buckeye late Friday night.

According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, 39-year-old Juan Torres was shot by two deputies and later died at an area hospital after officers were called in regards to a domestic disturbance.

Deputies arrived to the area of 209th Avenue and Narramore Road in Rainbow Valley to find Torres in the backyard of the residence.

During the deputies’ interaction with the suspect, police said Torres threw a large wrench, striking one of the deputies.

Police said Torres then approached the two deputies with a hammer. Both deputies fired their weapons, hitting Torres.

Torres was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

One of the deputies involved in the altercation sustained minor injuries.

Sheriff Paul Penzone later released body-camera video and the 911 call of the incident.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

This was the second MCSO-involved shooting of the year, and the 16th officer-involved shooting in the Valley.
