Pence arrives in Arizona for border visit on Thursday afternoon

PHOENIX – Vice President Mike Pence arrived in Arizona on Thursday afternoon for a tour of the U.S.-Mexico border with Gov. Doug Ducey.

Following a morning meeting with the South Korean President Moon Jae-in, Pence flew aboard Air Force Two to Tucson’s Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, where he landed around 2 p.m.

He will then travel to Nogales to participate in a U.S. Border Patrol briefing and tour the border.

He’ll depart from Davis-Monthan around 5 p.m. en route for Omaha, Nebraska.

Ducey will also accompany the vice president on his visit. The governor greeted Pence in Tucson, then will join him for the briefing, border tour and press conference in Nogales.

“I hope to get a status update on the crisis that’s happening at the border,” Ducey told reporters Wednesday.

“I also want to make my case for what are common sense legislative changes that Congress can address that will help alleviate and fix this crisis. And then I want to advocate for more resources, more boots on the ground.”

Pence last visited Arizona in March, when he met with Ducey and participated in several business-oriented events.

He’ll be the second member of the Trump administration to visit the border in Arizona in the span of a week.

Then-Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen participated in a roundtable discussion with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials on April 4.

Three days later, Nielsen announced her resignation. Wednesday was to be her last day on the job.

We want to hear from you.
