PHOENIX — Authorities in Phoenix are searching for the driver of a Volkswagen sedan involved in a hit-and-run accident that injured three young children and their mother over the weekend.
Sgt. Tommy Thompson said the male suspect allegedly struck a 25-year-old woman and her children, ages 5, 3 and 2, in the area of 70th Avenue and Indian School Road.
Thompson said the Volkswagen Passat struck the group around 8 p.m. Friday and dragged the stroller with the 2-year-old girl in it for approximately 1,000 feet.
The woman and children were stopped in the two-way left hand turn lane when they were struck by the vehicle.
The driver was eventually stopped in the intersection a block away, where he was told that someone was under his vehicle.
Witnesses were able to remove the girl from under the vehicle. Once the girl and the stroller were removed, the driver again fled the scene.
The suspect was last seen driving northbound on 71st Drive from Indian School Road. Thompson said his car had an Arizona license plate, AGB3745.
All of the victims are in serious condition. The 3-year-old boy sustained the most serious injuries.
