PHOENIX — A rideshare driver waiting at a Scottsdale freeway ramp was killed Sunday afternoon in a chain-reaction accident, authorities said.
Police said a northbound car went up the sidewalk along the underpass at Loop 101 and Hayden Road, across landscaping and then smashed into the rideshare car at the off-ramp. That forced the rideshare vehicle into a third car.
The unidentified driver was pronounced dead the scene. The driver’s two passengers were unharmed, while the driver of the second car was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The people in the third car suffered minor injuries.
No other details of the crash were available.
It was the second serious road accident of the day. Earlier, three people, including an infant, were killed and three Phoenix firefighters were hurt in a collision between a pickup truck and a fire engine.
