PHOENIX – A West Valley woman was arrested last week after the 6-month-old baby she was taking care of tested positive for methamphetamine, authorities said.
Rene Galbreath, the child’s 39-year-old step-grandmother, was booked into a Phoenix jail Saturday on charges of possession of dangerous drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, child abuse and endangerment, Sgt. Tim Klarkowski of the Surprise Police Department said Tuesday in an email.
Klarkowski said the baby tested positive after being taken to the hospital by its mother Thursday.
The mother said she’d left the baby with Galbreath.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for Galbreath’s house and found methamphetamine in the room where the baby was being watched for several hours.
Galbreath said she knew the drugs were in the room but did not know how the baby got into contact with them, Klarkowski said.
