PHOENIX — Authorities are investigating reports that a suspect allegedly exposed and fondled himself near a Phoenix day care.

Police Sgt. Vince Lewis said officers responded to a call from an animal clinic in the area of Cave Creek and Greenway roads around 3:45 p.m. March 28.

Lewis said witnesses said the man was “exposing and fondling himself” near the business, which was in the proximity of an occupied day care.

Around 8:30 p.m. that evening, a staffer from the veterinarian clinic reported a sexual assault.

The woman told police she was attacked and strangled from behind and she believed her attacker was the same man, Lewis said.

She “awoke and felt she was sexually assaulted,” he added.

Officers still have not located or identified the suspect.

The department’s family investigations bureau adult sex crimes unit is investigating.
