PHOENIX — A resource center run by the Department of Veterans Affairs in Phoenix has helped more than 1,800 veterans solve issues since it opened in December.

The center near Seventh Street and Indian School Road can help with issues ranging from billing to transportation, and starting April 15, it will also handle congressional inquiries.

“I think it’s going to make things run a lot more smooth because this center is here to expedite handling of veteran issues,” Cindy Dorfner, chief of public affairs, told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Monday.

Ulises Lopez Castaneda, patient relations assistant, described the resource center as a “one-stop shop” for all of veterans’ needs.

“What we do here is we facilitate that communication with veterans and departments they may need to get in contact with regarding issues, complaints, whatever it may be,” he told KTAR News.

“The message that I want to convey to our veterans is here at the Phoenix VA and the Veteran Resource Center, we understand what they’re going through.”

Phoenix veteran Eugene Gabrielli stopped by the center recently to get help with paying a bill, the fourth time he’s used the center’s services.

“They just told me where to go and who to see, and it took care of the problem right away,” he told KTAR News.

“I came here and I submit it to them. They’ll take care of it — they always do.”

KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Griselda Zetino contributed to this report.
