PHOENIX — A 12-year-old elementary school student in Tucson was arrested this week for allegedly bringing a firearm to school and threatening others.
The sixth-grade student at DeGrazia Elementary School was arrested on three counts of aggravated assault, three counts of kidnapping, two counts of theft of a firearm, one count of misconduct involving weapons and one count of interfering with an educational institution.
Deputy Daniel Jelineo with the Pima County Sheriff’s Office told KTAR News 92.3 FM he could not comment on the specific case.
Jelineo said those charges apply when there are instances like displaying a gun in a threatening manner and not allowing people to leave an area to seek safety.
Marana Unified School District spokeswoman Tamara Crawley said in an email that the boy is no longer enrolled at the district.
“Law enforcement agencies and the Marana Unified School District take safety concerns and threats very seriously,” the statement read.
“Threats and threatening behavior result in serious consequences aligned with the district discipline matrix and Arizona criminal law.”
No one was injured.
The investigation is ongoing.
