PHOENIX — As Phoenix Police Officer Paul Rutherford is laid to rest Thursday, multiple sections of the Loop 101 will be restricted between approximately 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Rutherford, 51, was killed last week when he was struck by car while crossing Indian School Road on foot to respond to a car collision.
Following a 10 a.m. service at Christ’s Church of the Valley, eastbound Loop 101 will be closed at 75th Avenue as the funeral procession approaches the freeway on 67th Avenue.
Once the entire procession is on the freeway, the Arizona Department of Public Safety will use a rolling closure to hold traffic until the vehicles exit at Seventh Street and continue to the Phoenix Memorial Cemetery.

Traffic can detour along the Beardsley frontage road, but according to the Arizona Department of Transportation, delays are likely.
ADOT said drivers should consider taking eastbound Interstate 10 to northbound State Route 51 to avoid the restriction.
The eastbound Loop 101 on-ramps at Bell Road and Seventh Avenue and the westbound ramp at Seventh Street will also be closed while the procession is traveling on the freeway.
The Interstate 17 ramps to eastbound Loop 101 will be closed when the procession is near the interchange.
