PHOENIX — A 16-year-old was arrested Monday for allegedly posting a threatening photo on social media that claimed to shoot up a West Valley high school.

The unidentified male is accused of posting a photo on Snapchat, a social media application, that showed an unidentified person holding a firearm.

The photo also had a message threatening to shoot people at Youngker High School on Monday, Detective Tamela Skaggs with the Buckeye Police Department said.

The post was shared numerous times throughout the community.

The teenager, who is a student at Youngker, was arrested and booked into the Durango Juvenile Facility in Phoenix on Monday. He also admitted to creating the threat.

He was charged with interfering with a school institution, a class 6 felony.

Skaggs said there is no current threat to the school. A BB gun that was used in the post was taken as evidence in the case.

“These are things that we take very seriously,” Skaggs told KTAR News 92.3 FM. “This is stuff that makes everyone else in the neighborhood, the community, scared. It’s a scary thing.”

KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Ashley Flood contributed to this report.
