PHOENIX — Southern Arizonans now have a hometown hero to root for on the “The Voice.”

A Tucson singer and manager of a 24/7 breakfast restaurant passed his audition for the competition reality show’s 16th season in an episode that aired Monday night.

Kalvin Jarvis, 30, sang “A Good Night” by John Legend, who is one of the judges on the show.

Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine, “American Idol” winner Kelly Clarkson and country star Blake Shelton all signaled interest in Jarvis, while Legend said he thought the performance was good but is picky about his own songs.

“Oh my gosh, you’re so good,” Clarkson said. “Your runs, it flowed, it was nice, it was sexy.”

“You’re ridiculous,” Levine said. “Obviously you’re doing John’s song, and this is his first time, so it’s like, that’s kind of overwhelming.”

“I feel like he was enjoying himself back here, so he’s a fan.”

Jarvis chose to join Levine’s team, which means the pop star will coach him throughout the future stages of the competition.

The next episode of auditions airs Wednesday night on NBC.
