PHOENIX — Any Arizona veteran in need of dental services will be able to get free care on Saturday from students studying dentistry at Midwestern University.

The Dental Day for Veterans event will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 5855 West Utopia Road, the Glendale university’s dental institute.

“It’s a very worthy event to give back to our veterans, many of whom are in need of dental care, and it’s our pleasure to be able to provide that free care for the veterans this March 23, this Saturday,” Associate Dean James Pashayan told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Monday.

The event is open to any veteran, including those who do not have insurance and are homeless.

The free care may include cleanings, X-rays, fillings, crowns, extractions and implant consultations.

Pashayan said the students will be supervised by licensed dentists, and they will take patients’ blood pressure before performing any procedures.

“If the blood pressure is in an area that would make dental care not an urgent issue and more of a medical issue, we can refer them to their heath care provider,” he said.

“Or we even have our own multi-specialty clinic on campus that takes appointments from the general public if they don’t have a primary care provider.”

Veterans must bring documentation that verifies their military service, including discharge forms or driver’s licenses with veteran designations.

“We have had a wonderful response from our veterans, and we do have some openings left,” Pashayan said.

“And I would certainly encourage our veterans to give us a call and see if they can get registered for it.”

Veterans can register online or by calling 623-806-7150.
