PHOENIX — The teenager accused of stabbing his aunt to death in an East Valley retirement community last month has posted bail.
The 14-year-old boy, whom KTAR News 92.3 FM has not identified because of his age, was released from Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office custody on Feb. 27 with electronic monitoring.
The mother of the teenager posted the $1 million cash bond, according to ABC15. The boy, who is being charged as an adult, was required to wear an ankle monitor on house arrest.
The teenager was arrested in February for killing his aunt, 42-year-old Tonya Harper, with a knife in the development southwest of Chandler. Harper died from stabbing injuries to her neck.
Court documents obtained by the television station showed the $1 million was wire transferred.
While on bail, the boy is not allowed to have any contact with other relatives, except for his mother, or witnesses, ABC15 reported.
The teen will appear in court next in April.
