PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Public Safety said a trooper shot and killed a man Saturday night in Buckeye after the man fired at the officer.
Police said the trooper attempted to stop a speeding Chrysler minivan around 9 p.m. north of Interstate 10 on Jackrabbit Trail.
The driver did not stop, tried to make a turn and rolled the vehicle onto its side, police said.
Two suspects came out of the vehicle, and 40-year-old Jose German of Phoenix fired at the trooper with a handgun, police said.
The trooper, who suffered minor injuries, returned fire and fatally shot German.
Police said German had an active felony warrant for failure to appear for sentencing for drug charges and a misdemeanor warrant for driving while suspended.
The second suspect, Adrian Carlos Campos, 40, fled the scene and was arrested March 18, according to DPS.
He was booked into the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office 4th Avenue Jail for shoplifting and criminal trespassing.
Police asked anyone with information to call DPS at 877-272-8329 or submit a tip online.
The incident was the Valley’s ninth officer-involved shooting this year.
