Think Tank discusses Phoenix election, Equal Rights Amendment
Mar 8, 2019, 2:00 PM
This week on KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Think Tank, host Mike O’Neil will tackle two topics: The Phoenix mayoral election and the Equal Rights Amendment.
Phoenix election: The Phoenix mayoral election is this Tuesday. Our first guest is candidate Kate Gallego. (For the record, we also invited candidate Daniel Valenzuela, who declined due to a scheduling conflict).
The Equal Rights Amendment: According to one poll, 80 percent of Americans think the Equal Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was passed long ago. It wasn’t.
It requires 38 states’ approval to be certified — so far, 37 have passed it. And Arizona could be the 38th. Or not.
Several states have rescinded their endorsements. These may or may not be legal, depending on who you talk to.
And the deadline for passage passed about 40 years ago. Congress may or may not be able to rectify this — again, depending on who you talk to.
And all this before we even get to discuss what the ERA would actually do. Guess what? That is also a subject of disagreement.
Our guests represent both sides of this debate:
- Cathi Herrod runs the Center for Arizona Policy
- Diane Post is with the ERA Task Force Arizona, and
- Anissa Rasheta is with Mormons for ERA
The Think Tank airs on KTAR News 92.3 FM on Sunday at 1-2 p.m. and repeats at 9-10 p.m.
Podcasts are available after each show is broadcast.
