PHOENIX — More than 13,000 Arizonans will receive checks as the result of a March 2018 settlement between the Arizona Attorney General’s Office and General Motors.
The $385 checks, totaling more than $5 million, are being mailed this week, according to the Attorney General’s Office.
The settlement stemmed from a series of recalls to GM vehicles in 2014 due to faulty ignition switches, airbags and power steering systems.
Arizona consumers who purchased certain GM vehicles between July 2009 and July 2014, did not resell them before their related recalls and returned a form by Jan. 9 were eligible for the checks.

An Arizona Consumer Fraud lawsuit was filed by the Attorney General’s Office in 2014, alleging that General Motors had concealed defects, engaged in false advertising and created a corporate culture that devalued vehicle safety.
When Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich took office in 2015, he amended the lawsuit to include a claim for payments to those who had purchased the affected vehicles.
General Motors had reached a settlement with 49 other states in regards to the recalled vehicles in October of 2017.
Arizona, however, filed a separate lawsuit with the intent of giving each Arizonan affected an individual refund and reached the settlement in March 2018.
