Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona parodied in ‘SNL’ Michael Cohen hearing skit

Mar 4, 2019, 4:35 AM | Updated: 8:09 am

PHOENIX — U.S Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona made headlines Wednesday when he accused President Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer Michael Cohen of being a “liar, liar, pants on fire” as he testified in front of the House Oversight and Reform Committee.

“Saturday Night Live” seized on this phrase and added it to the show’s opening skit this weekend that parodied multiple figures at the hearing.

About seven minutes into the act, cast member Kyle Mooney appeared as Gosar and mocked his anger and mispronunciation of words throughout his questioning.

Mooney stumbled through the word “pathological” and yelled “You don’t even know truth from fictionals!” at Cohen, played by Ben Stiller.

Mooney also repeated Gosar’s (in)famous phrase and added: “If you lie, pants are fire. If you truth, pants are goof.”

This led Stiller to ask, “Do you need medical attention?”

Gosar responded Sunday morning in good spirits, saying he laughed at the skit and would like to see Mooney play him again.

Gosar told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Arizona’s Morning News on Thursday that he did not regret his word choice during the hearing.

U.S. Senator Kyrsten Sinema was recently parodied on the show, labeled as the “Kooky Arizona Lady” in a skit about women newly elected to Congress.
