PHOENIX — After shivering through record low temperatures last week, the Valley of the Sun got back on track with the hottest temperature of the year.

Phoenix recorded the highest temperature so far in 2019 on Thursday, less than a week after the city shattered a 122-year-old record for the lowest high-temperature for Feb. 22.

The high temperature of 77 degrees recorded at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport was the warmest the city has seen since Nov. 20, according to the National Weather Service.

Just six days earlier, on Feb. 22, Phoenix recorded a high temperature of 47 degrees, a record low for the date. The previous record was 54 degrees, set back in 1897.

The record-breaking cold wasn’t the only weather event in Phoenix last week: 1.01 inches of rain was measured Feb. 21, setting a record for the date. The previous mark was 0.73 inches in 1973.

But the city returned to normal temperatures this week, with highs ranging between 67 and 76 degrees.

There is a 30 percent chance of rain in Phoenix on Saturday, but temperatures are expected to climb into the high 70s into the next week.

We want to hear from you.
