PHOENIX — A 16-year-old student was arrested earlier this week for allegedly bringing a handgun to a Phoenix high school, authorities said.
Sgt. Armando Carbajal with the Phoenix Police Department told KTAR News 92.3 FM the arrest was made Monday morning, after South Mountain High School officials found the handgun and an airsoft gun in the teenager’s backpack.
Officials were made aware of the weapon after the student posted a photo of himself with them on campus.
Carbajal said there may have been one or two other students in the picture whom authorities are still trying to contact.
The teenager’s motive is unknown, Carbajal added, but said it was a “very deliberate act.”
The investigation is ongoing.
