Surprise launches website to promote local businesses, boost tourism

PHOENIX — The city of Surprise has launched a new website to promote its local hot spots and draw in more tourists.

“One of our goals is to really promote Surprise as a tourism destination and to attract visitors to Surprise and get them to stay longer when they are here for events,” Kendra Pettis, the city’s director of sports and tourism, told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Tuesday.

The website, exploresurprise.com, encourages visitors to “find your Surprise” and view local options for entertainment, dining and lodging.

The site also features an events calendar that local businesses and organizations can contribute to, so visitors and residents can easily stay on top of what’s happening in the city.

Other tabs include a blog, image and video gallery, weather and a list of itineraries.

Pettis said the city expects to see an uptick of about 200,000 people in town for spring training through March, which she said is just one of the sports events that draws people to the area.

“This website will definitely help us to try to keep those dollars in Surprise,” she said.

“So if they are coming to a specific event, hopefully they will stay in Surprise, then go to our local restaurants and shop in Surprise as well.”

Pettis said the website is very visual and makes it easy for people to fill their days with fun activities.

“It gives visitors and our residents a good one-stop shop for all the things that are going on, and hopefully it makes it easy for them to navigate their trip,” she said.

“We’re just excited for more people to see all the beautiful things that we have in Surprise.”

KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Taylor Kinnerup contributed to this report.
