PHOENIX — Pecos Road will be closed nightly beginning on Sunday, Feb. 24, through April to remove rock for the 22-mile South Mountain Freeway, scheduled for completion in 2020.
Pecos Road from 17th to 24th streets will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Friday as construction workers begin to clear space to extend the Loop 202 to the West Valley as a southern alternative to the I-10.
The 22-mile stretch of highway will provide a new connection for motorists traveling between the East Valley and West Valley that bypasses downtown Phoenix.
Travelers have been asked to use Chandler Boulevard as an alternative to Pecos Road.
Pecos Road is the western extension of the Loop 202 beginning at the intersection of the Loop 202 and the I-10. It runs south of South Mountain.
