PHOENIX — A Goodyear police officer was placed on leave after a witness filed a complaint about her erratic driving on a major freeway.

The unidentified officer was seen swerving left and right on the MC85 and the Interstate 10 in the West Valley on Tuesday.

An 8-minute video shot by Brian Franks showed the car swerving in and out of the lanes, crossing the median line and coming dangerously close to other cars.

Goodyear Deputy Chief of Police Justin Hughes told KTAR News 92.3 FM in an email that the department began an internal investigation shortly after the complaint was received.

Hughes said the officer was on duty on “special detail,” but was not in uniform.

Hughes said there were no accidents reported in connection to the erratic driving and “nothing was observed on the video,” but added that it would be part of the investigation.

“It’s almost hard to believe that somebody that gave the oath to protect and serve is acting in that manner,” Franks told ABC15.

“You would expect an officer of the law to be the one that would be obeying the law and the traffic rules.”
