PHOENIX – A Phoenix developer has big plans for the building that formerly housed DeSoto Central Market, the eclectic food court-style venue that closed last summer.

EQ Arizona purchased the 1920s-era building at the busy intersection of Roosevelt Street and Central Avenue in November, three months after DeSoto shut down.

Company honcho Chuckie Duff told ABC15 he wants to “bring something to the area that’s not there,” but he wasn’t yet ready to release details about the nightlife concept.

He told the TV station “we’re keeping a lot of what’s there structurally, but the interior look/finish will be quite different” than DeSoto, which opened in 2015.

Duff is behind the development of a variety of well-known Phoenix projects, including Cobra Arcade, Gracie’s Tax Bar and Rebel Lounge.

The new venture is located near a light rail stop in downtown’s booming Roosevelt Row Arts District.

We want to hear from you.
