Where in the world is the late U.S. Sen. Carl Hayden’s chair?
“On September 9, 2018, several storage units were broken into near 40th Street and McDowell Road,” says Phoenix Police Sgt. Jamie Rothschild.
Among the items that were taken was a custom-made, leather-upholstered, mahogany arm chair that was in Hayden’s office when he served as a senator.
Rothschild says, “We think maybe the chair was given to someone or sold to someone and they don’t recognize, truly, how valuable this item is.”
It’s valued at at least $7,000, not only because it’s signed by several federal judges but because of the craftsmanship.
Next: This had to be terrifying for a convenience store clerk and a 14-year-old relative.
It happened on Jan. 26 at about 8:30 p.m., at a convenience store near Broadway and Dobson roads in Mesa.
The victims were behind the counter of A to Z Mart.
“Three suspects came through the door and they were all armed,” says Rothschild. “One had a revolver and two had semi-auto handguns.”
They were wearing ski masks and gloves.
Two of them jumped the counter, took the victims cell phones and smashed them while the other gunman appeared to act as lookout near the front door.
They took cash and cigarettes before fleeing.
The victims weren’t hurt.
