PHOENIX — Two Phoenix pedestrians were fatally struck by cars in separate incidents over the weekend, just 5 hours apart.

Phoenix police said Jose Diron, 69, was killed Saturday around 7:35 p.m. after being struck by two cars near 67th Avenue and Buckeye Road.

Diron was crossing the road when he was hit by one car, then struck by another while he was down.

He was transported to a hospital and later pronounced dead.

Police said the two drivers remained on scene and showed no signs of impairment. No charges were issued.

In the second incident, Sheldon Begay, 26, was killed Sunday after he was struck by a car around 12:30 a.m., Phoenix police said.

A witness told police that Begay was stumbling in and out of a roadway near Southern Avenue and Val Vista Drive when he was hit.

Phoenix Fire pronounced him dead on scene.

Police said the driver remained on scene and showed no signs of impairment. No charges were expected to be issued.
