PHOENIX — Two pedestrians were struck and killed by separate cars within hours of each other in Phoenix on Thursday and Friday.

Sgt. Tommy Thompson said 5-year-old Branden Weaver Jr. was killed after being struck in the area of 25th and Maryland avenues around 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Selina Dole, 60, was killed by a vehicle in the area of 51st Avenue and McDowell Road around 6 a.m. Friday, Thompson said.

The child was injured after he “darted between two parked vehicles,” Thompson said. The boy then went into the street, where he was hit by a westbound pickup truck.

The 71-year-old driver remained on scene. There were no signs of impairment or excessive speed.

The second pedestrian-involved accident caused the closure of McDowell Road from 47th to 51st avenues during the early morning rush hour.

An unidentified 61-year-old man was driving a 2008 Ford Fusion on McDowell Road when he allegedly hit Dole while she was crossing the road near 48th Lane.

The driver remained on scene and impairment is not believed to be a factor.

No other details were immediately available.

The investigations are ongoing.
