PHOENIX — Hoping to snag a spot at the Havasu Falls Campground this year?
Now’s your chance — reservations for the 2019 season open up at 8 a.m. Friday.
The coveted camping spot located on the Havasupai Indian reservation within the Grand Canyon National Park is know for its aqua waterfalls and orange cliffs.
It’s a 10-mile hike from the trailhead to the campground, which is between two of the signature waterfalls, Havasu Falls and Mooney Falls.
The canyon is accessible only by foot, helicopter or mule ride.
Last year, all reservations sold out on opening day, so the Havasupai Tribe recommends that people create an account on the website in advance and claim their spot as soon as possible.
All bookings for the 2019 season, lasting from February through November, are for three-night, four-day stays.
The cost is $100 per person per weekday night and $125 per person per Friday, Saturday and Sunday night, which includes all permits, fees and taxes.
The campground was closed for part of the summer last year when flash flooding in July led to a helicopter evacuation of about 200 tourists.
Emergency repairs to the hiking trail and in the village and campground were expected to top $250,000.
