PHOENIX – Police in Phoenix said a man and woman accused of posing as utility workers to gain access to the home of an elderly couple have been arrested.

Bisono Ely, 28, and Savanna Wesley, 25, were booked into jail Friday on multiple counts of burglary, criminal impersonation, giving false information to officers and child abuse.

Sgt. Armando Carbajal said in an email that a 76-year-old woman and an 82-year-old man told police Ely knocked on the front door of the their home near 35th and Northern avenues on Thursday. He told them he worked for the water department and need to run a check inside.

He was wearing a construction-type safety vest, they said.

A child came inside with Ely and began wandering around picking up things. A short while later, a woman came through the door with another child.

The older couple finally asked them all to leave and took photos of the other couple and their car.

Police tracked down the the younger couple’s car near 33rd Avenue and Greenway Road on Friday and arrested them.

The Phoenix Water Department said its employees never ask to come inside a house unless the occupants had already been alerted.

Workers will be in uniform displaying the City of Phoenix bird on the patches and will carry an identification badge with his or her picture.

The department can be reached at 602-262-6251.
