PHOENIX — A 24-ton tanker leaking tar shut down a ramp on Interstate 17 in central Phoenix early Monday and an unrelated wreck on the freeway created more issues.
The leaking truck forced a closure at the southbound Seventh Avenue ramp and along the frontage road shortly before 5 a.m., the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.
Lanes near the spill reopened around 7:30 a.m., but the ramp remained closed until 2 p.m.
Here’s a video from shortly after troopers arrived. Some of the leaking tar flowed into the far right lane and down the ramp. Troopers will inspect the truck further to find out what happened. pic.twitter.com/xdEq0S1yoM
