PHOENIX — When U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant Miranda Douglas was deployed six months ago, she didn’t have anyone who could take care of her two dogs.

Luckily, the Arizona Humane Society’s Project Active Duty program was able to find a foster home for Nacho and Lady at no cost for the duration of her deployment.

Douglas recently returned from her deployment and was reunited with the two pups Monday morning.

The humane society presented her with treats, toys and beds for Nacho and Lady.

The Project Active Duty program allows any active military member leaving for a tour of duty to drop off up to two pets.

The organization finds a foster home for the animals, ensuring they will be well cared for while their owners are away.

The humane society launched the program with PetSmart after 9/11 in an effort to serve members of the military.

We want to hear from you.
