PHOENIX – An Arizona man was sentenced to 12 years in state prison last week on child pornography charges after Dropbox put the drop on him, authorities said.
JJ Austin Angel Amack “Jay” McFarland, a 28-year-old Cottonwood resident, also received lifetime probation for sexual exploitation of a minor and will be required to register as a sex offender, the Arizona Attorney General’s Office said in a press release Monday.
The release said data storage company Dropbox reported to a national tip line in September 2017 that a customer had uploaded child pornography to its servers.
Phoenix Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigators identified McFarland as the customer and got a warrant to search his home in February 2018.
They found him in possession of a cellphone that contained images of child pornography.
After he was arrested, McFarland pleaded guilty in Yavapai Superior Court in Camp Verde. He was sentenced on Friday.
