PHOENIX – The newest director of Arizona State Parks might already be familiar with some of the best spots in the system.
Gov. Doug Ducey announced Friday he has hired former state Game and Fish deputy director Bob Broscheid to fill the parks leadership post.
Broscheid has been director of Colorado Parks and Wildlife since 2013.
“With Bob’s extensive leadership background in wildlife and outdoor management, I am pleased that he will be back in Arizona working to protect our natural parks and promote our recreational assets,” Ducey said in statement.
Broscheid spent 18 years at the state Game and Fish office as a biologist and habitat branch chief.
“Arizona is full of diverse landscapes, rich cultural history, and outdoor recreation opportunities,” The Arizona State University graduate said in a statement.
“These parks belong to everybody, and my top priorities will be to help preserve and protect these natural resources for the enjoyment of all visitors.”
Colorado Gov. Doug Hickenlooper said, “Bob is an incredible leader with a strong vision, and will serve the people of Arizona extremely well and with the highest integrity.”
Broscheid replaces Sue Black, who was fired in November, Sue Black, accused in a complaint by an archaeologist of allowing potential archaeological sites to be bulldozed.
Ducey did not give a reason for Black’s dismissal, as well of that of state Forestry Director Jeff Whitney.
