PHOENIX – A Valley mother-daughter team will put their baking skills to the test Saturday night on “Bake It Like Buddy,” a competition hosted by Buddy Valastro of “Cake Boss” fame.
Heather Walker of Scottsdale, who runs the home-based Cake Doll bakery, and her mother, Debbie Knaeble, will try to whip up a prize of $1,000 and baking supplies on an episode that debuts at 7 p.m. Arizona time on the Discovery Family channel.
“Family and baking has always been so special to me throughout my life because that’s how you prove that you love somebody in our family, is that you bake for them,” Walker said during a promo clip for the show.
The program also will be streamed live on the Discovery Family GO app and be available to watch on demand the next day.
Each week on “Bake It Like Buddy,” two family duos go head-to-head at the Valastro-owned Carlo’s Bakery in Hoboken, New Jersey.
Buddy, other family members and Carlo’s employees mentor and judge the contestants in a different challenge each episode.
The Cake Doll team’s task is to design and create a sandcastle cake within the show’s four-hour time limit.
When not baking custom cakes and other delicacies, Walker shares recipes on the Phoenix Family Foodie blog.
Her bio on the website shows she’s no stranger to baking competitions or TV shows.
It says she’s appeared on two Food Network shows, “Bakers vs. Fakers” and “Spring Baking Championship,” and regularly appears on local news programs.
She also is a two-time top-five finalist in the World Food Championships.
