Registration underway for Pat’s Run in April, which is expected to sell out

PHOENIX – Registration opened Tuesday for Pat’s Run, the popular annual charity race in Tempe honoring Pat Tillman, who was killed in Afghanistan after giving up his NFL career to join the U.S. Army.

Zeke Warzeka, events and operations manager for the Pat Tillman Foundation, told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Tuesday that he expects the 4.2-mile run/walk scheduled for April 27 to sell out for the third consecutive year.

“For those individuals that are still trying to figure out if they’re going to sign up or not, we would definitely recommend to sign up sooner rather than later,” Warzeka said.

Participants can register at the Pat Tillman Foundation website.

The entry price steadily increases the closer it gets to race day. It’s $45 until the end of January but goes as high as $60 after April 1 – if spaces are still available.

“Last year we sold out on March 31, about three weeks before our race, which was the fastest we ever sold out,” Warzeka said.

This year’s participants will receive a race shirt honoring Tillman’s legacy with the Arizona Cardinals and gain access to the post-run party inside Sun Devil Stadium.

Finishers will receive a collector series medal.

Proceeds from Pat’s Run support the Tillman Scholars program, which invests in education and professional development for active duty service members, veterans and military spouses.

Tillman starred at Arizona State University before moving on to the Cardinals. He left the NFL in 2002 to become an Army Ranger and was killed in 2004.
