Scottsdale ranked as best city in country for finding a job in 2019
If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to find a new job, the Phoenix area is a good place to be.
That’s because Scottsdale is the best city in the country to find a job for 2019, according to personal finance website WalletHub.
WalletHub compared 182 cities in 30 indicators of job market strength across two key dimensions: job market and socioeconomics.
Scottsdale was one of just two cities to crack the top 10 in both dimensions, ranking second in job market and sixth in socioeconomics.
“When we’re looking at job opportunities, it [Scottsdale] has some of the most now,” Jill Gonzalez, WalletHub analyst, told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Thursday. “A pretty good monthly average starting salary, too, for people just starting out.”
Phoenix police investigating incident with patient at health care facility
A health care facility in Phoenix is under investigation after a report surfaced of a patient who allegedly gave birth despite being in a vegetative state for at least a decade.
Hacienda HealthCare said in a statement through a spokesperson that it had “recently become aware of a deeply disturbing incident involving the health and safety of a Hacienda resident.”
The facility located near 16th Street and South Mountain Avenue said it is conducting an internal review and will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement to get “to the truth of what, for us, represents an unprecedented matter.”
When asked about an incident at Hacienda HealthCare, Sgt. Tommy Thompson with the Phoenix Police Department said the “matter is currently under investigation” but did not provide more information.
Prosecutors seek extension in responding to Jodi Arias’ appeal
A two-week extension has been requested by prosecutors in responding to Jodi Arias’ appeal of her murder conviction in the 2008 death of her former boyfriend.
Prosecutors are facing a Friday deadline for filing their response to Arias’ appeal, but asked for the extension on Thursday.
The Arizona Court of Appeals hasn’t yet ruled on the request.
Lawyers for Arias filed their appellate brief in July saying a prosecutor’s misconduct and a judge’s failure to control news coverage deprived her of a fair trial.
Police release body cam footage from arrest of Gov. Doug Ducey’s son
Police body cam footage shows Gov. Doug Ducey’s 19-year-old son being remorseful and respectful while getting arrested for using a fake driver’s license to enter a Valley bar last month.
When questioned, Joe Ducey can be heard admitting that he used a fake ID to get into Boondocks Patio & Grill in Old Town Scottsdale and repeatedly calling officers “sir.”
According to the Scottsdale Police report, Ducey was in possession of a forged South Carolina driver’s license just before 1 a.m. on the morning of Dec. 16.
A security guard at the night club had detained Ducey and turned him over to police on the scene, the report said.
