PHOENIX – If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to find a new job, the Phoenix area is a good place to be.

That’s because Scottsdale is the best city in the country to find a job for 2019, according to personal finance website WalletHub.

WalletHub compared 182 cities in 30 indicators of job market strength across two key dimensions: job market and socioeconomics.

Scottsdale was one of just two cities to crack the top 10 in both dimensions, ranking second in job market and sixth in socioeconomics.

“When we’re looking at job opportunities, it [Scottsdale] has some of the most now,” Jill Gonzalez, WalletHub analyst, told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Thursday. “A pretty good monthly average starting salary, too, for people just starting out.”

“And it has one of the highest median annual incomes in the country.”

In fact, Scottsdale, Gilbert and Chandler were among six municipalities tied for the highest median annual income.

If you’d rather work further to the south in the Phoenix area, don’t worry. The East Valley suburbs of Chandler (No. 10) and Tempe (No. 14) also rated highly.

“The tax friendliness of Arizona certainly helps out here as well,” Gonzalez said.

Six other Arizona cities were on the list: No. 39 Gilbert, No. 41 Peoria, No. 53 Phoenix, No. 65 Mesa, No. 68 Glendale and No. 105 Tucson.

Glendale stood out in one metric, ranking fifth in highest employment growth.

WalletHub limited the analysis to the 150 largest cities by population plus at least two of the largest cities in each state.

Scottsdale was followed at the top of the heap by No. 2 Columbia, Maryland, and No. 3 Orlando, Florida.

If you’re planning to leave Arizona and look for work, avoid Fayetteville, North Carolina, which finished dead last, No. 181 Las Cruces, New Mexico, and No. 180 Newark, New Jersey.
