PHOENIX — It’s been a snowy New Year’s holiday for much of Arizona.

New Year’s Eve dropped rain and snow throughout the state, leading to multiple road closures in northern areas.

Even with less snow falling on New Year’s Day, slick roads continued to create hazardous driving conditions, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The National Weather Service said Flagstaff received more than 4 inches of snow Monday, and some additional light snowfall was expected Tuesday for parts of eastern Arizona.

Temperatures continued to drop, with two northern cities expected to go as low as 0 degrees Tuesday night.

The weather service said Phoenix’s high temperature was 51 degrees Tuesday — 15 degrees below normal.

The snowfall was expected to move south, with predictions of up to 2 inches in Tucson starting Tuesday night.

Parts of the Santa Catalina mountains north of Tucson have already received 11 inches of snow, resulting in the closure of Mount Lemmon.

Other parts of southern Arizona could see as much as 6 inches of snow through Wednesday morning.
