PHOENIX – A $3 million gift from an alumnus will set up a dean’s chair at Arizona State University’s W.P. Carey School of Business, the university recently announced.

The donation will establish the Charles J. Robel Dean’s Chair in Business. Robel graduated from the business school in 1971 and has been on GoDaddy’s board of directors since 2008.

Before that, Robel spent over 25 years working in California’s tech hub in Silicon Valley.

“I’m very proud to continue my association with the W. P. Carey School through this gift and help the school build on its reputation for excellence,” Robel said in a Dec. 26 statement.

He was inducted into the business school’s Alumni Hall of Fame in 2014.

“Chuck has been a longtime supporter of the W. P. Carey School and of ASU in general,” Amy Hillman, dean of the business school, said in a statement.

Hillman also became the beneficiary of the dean’s chair endowment.

“We’ve been fortunate to have his commitment for a number of years, and we are proud that this new position will extend a vital relationship for both of us,” she said.
