PHOENIX — Arizona House of Representatives Speaker-elect Rusty Bowers announced disciplinary action Friday against Rep. David Cook, who was charged with extreme DUI on Wednesday night.
The House County Infrastructure Committee, which Cook was going to chair, will be disbanded, and Cook will be removed from the House Public Safety Committee.
Bowers said Cook will remain on the House Natural Resources, Energy & Water Committee, though.
“Rep. Cook has the ability to be a talented legislator, but he clearly has some personal challenges that he needs to confront,” Bowers said in a statement.
“I’m hopeful that this incident serves as a wake-up call to him and that he does the work necessary to earn back the trust of his colleagues and constituents – and he has committed to do so.” he said.
Cook was charged with extreme DUI after being pulled over for driving erratically in East Mesa.
A breath test revealed that the Pinal County Republican had a blood alcohol content of .158, nearly twice the legal limit.
