Investigators just can’t figure this one out: Omar Gonzalez Martinez, 27, was gunned down in the street last year.

“He was just leaving a restaurant,” said Phoenix police Sgt. Jamie Rothschild. “He had bags of food and somebody came by and shot him multiple times.”

It happened Oct. 6, 2017, near 23rd Avenue and Indian School Road.

Rothschild said the suspect vehicle is either a 2004 or 2005 Chevrolet Impala.

Investigators don’t know if this was a random shooting or a case of mistaken identity.

“Every indication we’ve gotten is that he’s just an innocent victim,” Rothschild said.

“He was known as a mellow, laid-back guy. He had family in the area, he was loved by a lot of people and he worked hard.”

Next, three burglars hit the jackpot when they broke into a storage unit near 54th Avenue and Interstate 10.

“Among the items that were stolen,” says Rothschild, “were collectible coins and pieces of silver.”

The break-in happened on Nov. 11. at about 7 p.m.

Rothschild said one suspect is in custody, but investigators would still like to find the other two: 29-year-old David Lucas and 37-year-old Crystal Pearson.

They also want to know if this specific unit, owned by a 73-year-old man, was targeted or if they just got lucky.

“We don’t know if there was a relationship beforehand or if this was random,” said Rothschild.

The suspects were caught on surveillance cameras at the storage facility.
