PHOENIX – Former first lady Michelle Obama will bring her book tour to Phoenix early next year after adding 21 dates, it was announced Tuesday.

Obama was scheduled to appear at the Comerica Theatre on Feb. 12 to promote her bestselling memoir, “Becoming.”

Tickets will go on sale to the general public Saturday at 10 a.m. Arizona time.

Promoter Live Nation said the former first lady wanted safeguards in place to make tickets available to “real fans” rather than secondary sellers. One of the measures includes registering for presale tickets through Wednesday. Those tickets will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.

“I couldn’t be more excited to visit even more cities across the country and around the world,” Mrs. Obama said in a statement.

Obama’s “Becoming” is selling at a pace rarely seen for a political memoir, or any nonfiction book.

Combined hardcover, e-book and audio sales in the U.S. and Canada topped 2 million copies in the first 15 days, Crown Publishing said.

By comparison, former first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton’s memoir “Living History” needed a month to sell 1 million copies.

Former President George W. Bush’s “Decision Points” took several weeks to reach 2 million and former President Bill Clinton’s “My Life” quickly sold 1 million copies but took far longer to hit 2 million.

“Becoming” was released Nov. 13. Sales have topped 3 million copies.

The North American tour ends May 12 in Nashville, Tennessee.

The tour began as a 12-city sweep in Mrs. Obama’s hometown of Chicago on Nov. 13. Television icon Oprah Winfrey, who rose to fame in the city, moderated the event.

Before she arrives in Phoenix, Obama will have made back-to-back weekend appearances in Tacoma, Washington, and Portland, Oregon.

After Phoenix, she will visit the Texas cities of Austin and Houston.

The tour will also take her to Canada and Europe, including Stockholm, Sweden; London and Paris.
