15-year-old pedestrian dies after being hit by vehicle in Phoenix

PHOENIX — A 15-year-old pedestrian died early Monday morning after being struck by a vehicle in south Phoenix, police said.
Sgt. Vince Lewis with the Phoenix Police Department said the teenager was struck near Central and Southern avenues around 7 a.m.
The pedestrian was transported to a hospital in critical condition, where he died.
The driver, who was not immediately identified, stayed on scene and cooperated with officers.
Lewis said the driver showed no signs of impairment.
Lewis said the crash occurred when the teenager crossed Southern Avenue mid-block.
Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area, as Southern Avenue will remain closed for the next few hours.
Police are investigating.
According to ABC15, there were at least 75 pedestrians who were killed in crashes in the Valley as of Oct. 19.
