PHOENIX — There are no freeway closures scheduled this weekend, the Arizona Department of Transportation said Thursday.
But Pecos Road will be closed in both directions between 40th and 32nd streets from Saturday at 1 a.m. to Sunday at 6 p.m. for underground utility work.
Eastbound lanes will also be closed from 32nd to 24th street.
The work is part of construction for the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway in Ahwatukee.
ADOT recommended drivers take Chandler Boulevard instead.
First approved by Maricopa County in 1985 and again in 2004, the South Mountain Freeway will provide a long-planned link between the East and West valleys and will give relief to existing freeway corridors and local streets.
Pecos Road will close between 40th and 32nd streets and will be restricted to westbound traffic only between 32nd and 24th streets this weekend for L-202 freeway work. The Pecos Road closure runs from 1 a.m. Saturday to 6 p.m. Sunday. More: https://t.co/ZndsaoZ3Vt#PhxTraffic pic.twitter.com/G9rj2fy6LL
