PHOENIX — Agents with the Border Patrol arrested an MS-13 gang member who illegally entered the United States after traveling through parts of Mexico with a migrant caravan.
The department announced Friday that the man, who was identified as 30-year-old Wuilson Lazo-Ramos, was arrested near Ajo, Arizona.
Lazo-Ramos is a Honduran national who has a felony conviction for weapons misconduct in Maricopa County. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and two years probation for his conviction.
Lazo-Ramos told agents he traveled with the caravan through dangerous parts of Mexico for his safety, then crossed the border illegally because he has a criminal record in the United States.
He is currently in federal custody.
There are three caravans currently moving through Mexico, with between 7,000 and 10,000 migrants.
